Biography

Samy Strola was born in Varallo, Italy, in 1979. In April 2003 he graduated in Physics at University of Torino (Italy). In his thesis he worked on the development and the optimization of Raman and luminescence spectroscope for the characterization of diamond samples, amorphous carbon and silicon carbide. The thesis was developed in cooperation with the Group of the Solid State (supervisor Prof. E.Vittone). In 2004 he worked at FIAT Research Center in Torino (Italy) on Chroma (Dr. S.Battaglino) and Sirpa (Dr. N.Pallaro) european projects to develop a Multifunctional Sensor to Detect Environmental Parameters. He received the PhD in Physics at the Polytechnic of Torino (Italy) in February 2008 (supervisor Prof. E.Tresso). His main research activity aimed at the study of the AFM lithographic processes. The local anodic oxidation and polymeric resist impression were studied. He also worked on the Fabry-Perot microcavities optic properties with the Raman and photoluminescence techniques. He also interested on the NAMAMET project (Processing of Nanostructured Materials through Metastable Transformation) and on the NANART project, an experimentation for the divulgation of nanoscience with the art language. In November 2008 joined the Joint Research Center (JRC) at Ispra (Italy) for a traineeship. He worked at IHCP institute to determine methods and protocols fot obtaining a quantitative/semiquantitative measures of protein adhesion on silica. The research is focused on XPS, ToF-SIMS, QCM characterization techniques (supervisors Dr. G.Ceccone and Dr. F.Rossi) He received the Master in Materials Science at the IUSS of Pavia (Italy) in February 2009), with a thesis on the results obtained during the JRC-IHCP traineeship.

Since May 2009 he worked at the Delft University of Technology as PostDoc Researcher, with the Laboratory of Electronic Components Technology and Materials, DIMES.
