Fast qualification of solder reliability in solid state lighting application (SolRelSSL)
The fast growth of solid state lighting (SSL) systems as the preferred light source for consumer and industrial lighting requires more accurate and reliable approach to evaluate the long term reliability of this novel type of lighting product. According to the work of Van Driel et al., 44% of the failures in SSL systems can be attributed to failure of the solder interconnect. In order to gain more knowledge of the system reliability, accurate models for the failure probability of different components within the system are highly desirable. On the other hand, proposing a fast and reliable testing protocol to virtually assess the reliability of solder interconnect in LED lighting system is also vital. The main objective of this project is to formulate a relatively accurate general life time prediction model and propose a reliable test protocol for fast reliability assessment.
